I decided to look at Frida's letters, rather than her story (or punctual facts), because her words are full of emotion, and I am very attracted to her way of seeing life, despite all her physical and emotional suffering. This portrait represents her strength and her courage. The absence of eyes symbolizes introspection and suggests that she saw life with her heart.

Suffering has accompanied Frida throughout her life. However, we can feel in her letters and her actions a force which allowed her to rebound, to keep the hope and the desire to live. I wanted to represent the acceptance of her state, a woman at peace with her past and future.
Frida was a woman, a muse, a painter. Someone sensual or even sexual. I wanted to represent all women who, like Frida, give themselves the freedom to enjoy their bodies, without shame. I wanted to represent her sexuality and her exaggerated and visceral love, in an elegant and intense way.
« Ma nuit me précipite dans ton absence. Ma nuit me répond: vide. Ma nuit me donne froid et solitude.
