About the painting:
"I hope the exit will be happy ... and I hope never come back". F.K.
Frida's relation with death has always intrigued me. She gives the impression of not being afraid of her arrival, she is waiting peacefully. Perhaps, and most likely, this is related to Mexican culture, where death is a symbol of renewal, a chance to start a new life.
In this painting, I represented this peaceful expectation. The veil shows that we do not know what awaits us beyond, but its beauty represents the absence of fear. The scissors that cut the string represent the end of a cycle (life). Smoking refers to Frida's addictions and her health problems. The tree planted in her hand is a symbol of rebirth. The cuttings meanwhile, reminds us that even dead, Frida will not stop being proud of its Mexican origins (roots). Orange, a symbol of unity, of inner harmony, of the union between masculine and feminine, conscious and unconscious, represents a period of fullness. In this case (next to the bones) she feels very well with the idea of death.
